A crust eaten in peace is better than a banquet partaken in anxiety. ~ Aesop
‘Tis the season for holiday stress! The complexities of working, cleaning, shopping, cooking and juggling the gift-giving demands of the season produce a slow-boiling anxiety. It begins at the very base of our bellies and by the time the New Year has arrived, it’s a full-blown explosion leaving us exhausted. Is it worth it?
As we start out the month of December, this message is one of encouragement for all of us to keep it simple. Think of ways to get more out of the experiences and people, less of the mad-dash mall stops, gift buying for everyone from the boss to the next door neighbor, cooking up everything from the bacon-wrapped scallops to the New York style cheesecake. Decide now what has to happen in order to minimize the madness.
How can we delegate? What can others bring to the feast? How can gifts be theme-based, like calendars for everyone, or jam from our favorite little shop, or tickets to the symphony, or homemade breads and candies? Picking a theme gives direction and narrows the overwhelming amount of choices during this time. Really, it’s about making it enjoyable for everyone, and the best gift we could give them is our calm, loving, and happy selves. Simply the best.
Make it a strong day!
